I would suppose that the original poster intended it to be less about functionality and more of a sense of feeling somewhat betrayed by the brand and the promise of the device being 'future proof' (i.e. open-source based) that Nokia kept using in their marketing early on. If Nokia can't make a device that uses open source drivers and open standards to communicate with that hardware, they should at least have the integrity to support their product hardware a bit longer. Particularly stinging for recent N810WE purchasers to read about Freemantle.

I've been very, very happy with my N800--but I got the feeling it's getting kicked to the curb by its manufacturer much sooner than it deserves--I'd argue that's it's certainly too soon for the N810WE. To throw Freemantle porting to the community is to offload all responsibility without giving you all of the drivers and the keys to the kingdom in the older generation of hardware. This can certainly feel like betrayal.

Aw well, as I've said before.. no big deal. I've liked my N800 a lot.. but if Nokia doesn't handle this well, it could be a learning experience that benefits someone else who does it better. My feeling could be wrong, and Nokia might make things alright after all.. but right now, it doesn't seem likely. I hope I'm wrong.
