What a coincidence, new Nokia smartphones will also contain TV out. They're getting more and more like each other...

There is nothing universal about it. They're as proprietary as you can get, except than you may license them. For a very nice fee *ahem*.

Perhaps you can show us the IEEE number of this 'standard' you are speculating about. Right, it doesn't exist. USB, BlueTooth, FireWire. Those are standards. Also with their own licensing fee, btw. So not open standards.
