You need to have installed gps-clockd from
http://nitapps.com/
. Nothing goes into the gps-clockd.log until you start the GPS in an application. There is no passsword, just try hitting "Return". I installed "sudser" to get sudo and it never asks for the password. It does sound like you have a strange problem that I've not seen. You can reflash your system to go back to factory configuration.
