A small table lamp that was precariously perched above my 770 fell on it and cracked the display in late September. Little liquid crystals were visible in the display area leaking outwards from the bifurcated crack, but they were contained by the rest of the display.

The slide-on case was not slid on to the front of the device, covering the display or I imagine the lamp would not have destroyed the screen.

I sent it to Nokia about a month ago and havn't heard anything from them so far. From what I hear, that's about how Nokia repairs go, but it's still a bummer that I have no information at all about what's going on. I basically considered it a loss when it broke, and kindof never expected to see it again when I shipped it off to Nokia, since it was not a phone (and the Nokia repair form I sent with it was not written for such devices), and it was obviously physical damage outside of what would be covered by the warranty. Since it wasn't in-warranty repair, I figured that the repair cost might be >50% of a new one, since the display is by far the nicest and most expensive part of the whole device.

The top of the display did work enough right after it happened for me to get a backup saved to my rsmmc card, and I was able to ssh into it to save all the rest of my data in my home dir, so I suffered no data loss (and no damage apparently to any other part of the 770).

Oh well, the new Nokia "880" looks promising. Hope it has a tad more ram and a screen that's the same or nicer in resolution/quality. Also hope it takes the same battery and charger, since I happen to have some spares of those now.
