lm2 - you won't be cutting out the middleman, just changing.
Logmein is a program/service you run on your local computer (almost like a local webserver). The local computer logs into logmein's own server.
That way you can (from any browser "in the world") log into logmein.com and via the website control your local computer.
To speed things up logmein has made plugins for various browsers - and a plugin for n8x0 browsers.
