I've downloaded Abiword on regular Maemo before. Sadly, that was a while ago. (Only removed it due to lack of space; it worked really well). I believe it is in the extras-devel repository... Gnumeric is also available

Not sure if it still works. Probably worth a try!
Another possibility is to install
Easy Debian
, which provides a full desktop operating system (Debian) on the tablet. Don't worry; it sits alongside the existing operating system.
That unlocks the very big world of software available in Debian's repositories, including Java and (of course!) Abiword. It isn't as nice that way since it isn't optimized for the tablet, but it works.
