Hello dude, thanks for the huge feedback, this is really helpful and for sure there's a couple of things here we should look asap. The reason about atabake was to make it faster to re-start canola, it kills itself after a couple of minutes, but anyhow we will look into that.

The 18mp is somthing funny: I have been asking this for the devs since beta1 : "hey guys, if it's too big, just don't load it, but don't crach it" but of course I know that I also demand a lot of other stuff with higher priority. Anyhow I also wish we could fix this for now, and with the layout being square for the next version I think we could close the pictures feature (as "final").

For the tree UI there's only one level that I have been wanting to kill but it's lower priority when compared to the scanner, thumbnailer and improving the overall speed and stability :
The menu and submenu. (We have actually the videos) where everything is on the first screen, and you don't have 2 levels, only menu then app. While still not jumping from a feature to other on everyscreen (like mediabox) We knew what we wanted to achieve, and we needed that space that would be dedicated to that.

Anyhow, I think once we place it opensource, I can release some of the design ideas including the one which adds a "jump" to anywhere with one touch. I just didn't think it was consistent enough to be added.

Speaking only about UI designing, and not the development itself, theres no way of not reaching points where you do get things a little worse than it should, but if you go the other way you will indeed fall in the mistake of consistency. I prefer to make it a little bit more boring but consistent than trying to solve some problems that affect the whole in a way that is much more uncontrollable.

I wish I could use the home button on the device, and the it was still 3 buttons like the n800 I would kill the bottom bar and add the navigation between apps like you suggested

Again : thanks, your feedback brings a lot of work to be done the time is short before the full open source release but I think we will for sure improve some of those.

BR
