sorry, there is a bug in ankimaemi. You can fix it the foloowing way:
1. get root
$ sudo gainroot
2. edit ankimaemi.py
vi /usr/lib/ankimaemi/ankimaemi.py

go to line 222, and add the following (not breaking the indentation)
if self.recent_decks[i]:
self.conf_client.set_string(...
