Once the 770's charging, it boots into a limited version of the OS to manage the power flow: this is why the power button doesn't work - it's already on.

It sounds like the battery ran out completely. Try:
  1. Leaving it on charge for, say, an hour.
  2. Unplug the charger.
  3. Turn it on.
  4. Put it back on charge once fully booted.
