I had this happen once and unfortunately I can't give you a difinitive answer as to how I brought it back to life. When the charging screen appeared I left it for a while, then held the button down to force a shutdown. Seemed to boot up after that if memory serves me.

Also, can you pop the battery out and just run it off of AC power? Maybe the battery charging/power monitoring circuitry is pooped.
