Because the word suggestion feature takes touch-screen focus I can understand it resizing the app and not being transparent. It would be weird if semi transparent keyword suggestions blocked access to the app that was under them. For example the console has a bar along the bottom for keys not on the n810 keyboard, such as tab - which does auto-completion and I use a lot. This is a great example because what I'm specifically doing is typing a partial word (file name) and then I would want to press a button on the screen that I would not be able to if it was under some suggestions - which pop up on partial words.
(My suggestions was specifically for the Fn, Abc and abc indicator to be transparent - it could allow clicks to go through to the app since there is no reason to click that indicator.)
I can even understand the large size of the bar - when you are typing you are using fingers/thumbs and not a stylus so the words need to be sized for that use. I am exposed to a fair amount of software design issues in my Real Life.
I personally just think the value offered by the word suggestion and key indicator is not worth the cost of the screen space on this device. I am quite happy now that I have been able to turn it off, thank you to everyone with suggestions.
On a related note, I guess, does anyone know if there is a way to map a key on the keypad to <tab>? I don't have my n810 handy to stare at and figure out which key I'd like to use as <tab>, but it sure would be nice to have it somewhere on that keypad.
Maybe shift or ctrl right-arrow? The on screen bar in xterm works though.
