Thanks for your show of solidarity. Don't you love that we live in an era now where we create stress in ourselves over whether our GPS works or not a few days prior to our next trip?... This morning I contemplated going back to the printed maps (!) - probably a good back-up to have anyway.

I'm still perturbed by this experience, leaving me with little confidence over the future of the device. I bought it originally because of the GPS and the licensing flexibility (buy only for as long as you need it - and get map updates for free), along with the nifty benefit of being able to make Skype phone calls at 2 cents a minute from anywhere in the world. But to alleviate travel "stress" in the future, I may alas opt to give in and buy a dedicated GPS unit after this trip.
