You are correct, boxfs allows you to mount your box.net account to a folder. Which does require an internet connection. My proposition would be to create an application that allows the user to select a folder to sync across multiple devices. This application would not require a constant internet connection, rather it would allow the user to connect to the internet and automatically or manually sync the folder to their box.net account.
