I also tried this, and it didn't work...

I did:
sudo gainroot
ifconfig wlan0 up
iwconfig wlan0 mode managed essid my_ap_essid

after that, i confirm that the n770 did not connect to the ap, even though they are in the same room...

running "iwlist wlan0 scanning", lists my AP.
(btw, my ap's essid is hidden)
