Yep, the OMAP2420 has hardware video support that allows 30fps VGA video decoding, and of course it's a more powerful CPU and has floating point support. But that's of no value unless the software is there to take advantage of the hardware.

I don't have an N800 yet (on order - maybe tomorrow or Wednesday) but if the video decoder is anything like that in the 770 then pretty much every video I have will fail with "Unsupported Format" or whatever the error is. No video larger than 352x208 supported etc. Still no DivX or XVid support in the N800!

There are tons of video formats and resolutions that will cause the 770 choke, I can only hope the N800 is significantly improved, but suspect it will support the usual subset of video formats. Sure I can transcode all my DivX/XVid videos to a supported format but wouldn't it be better if the 770 and N800 weren't so picky?

Why Nokia haven't thrown their support behind Serge and the mplayer port I really don't know.
