That would help, especially on a PC. What is missing, though, is an indication of whether there are any unread messages in a thread; I think the presence of the old, small, icon used to be that indication. Now, the reply count is always present, so I don't see an easy way to tell if there are unread messages without opening the thread. Seconded.
