as far as i remember (my 770 died) you can select multiple messages even on the 770, it's just not obvious how to do it:

tap on a message that's not highlighted (starting with the currently highlighted one would result in a drag&drop action) and move up/down in the list. that should select all mails you touch. then you can delete them all.
