I'm not sure what "official" would exactly entail. I'd say keep it for fun: there's no need for the council to "meddle". If it gets used, it gets used - it's not in the council's power to mandate people use it. That'd just smack of authoritarianism. As for including it as part of the website branding, or other "official"ness, there'd probably be Nokia to get involved as owners of the Maemo trademark. Best leave that battle for another day, methinks.
