Indeed, there are a few ongoing places where proofreadiong is needed already - in the wiki, where we started the wiki action group last year: http://wiki.maemo.org/Maemowiki_Action_Group - a lot of the newer wiki content needs editorial work, and the older stuff needs editing and flagging for where it's inaccurate.

As Lardman says, we expect the official Maemo guides to be available in public for Fremantle, and at that stage, proof reading and corrections will be more than welcome.

And finally, the API documentation is all generated from the source code using gtkdoc - and contributions are welcome there too.

In general, typos and docs errors are bugs that should be fixed - we've been going through bugs.maemo.org for this, but in the absence of a publicly available repository in many cases, it's hard to know how to get the problems fixed. This is a major issue that we're working to fix.
