By "smallest carrier", I hope you mean "smallest of the big 4". There are PLENTY of carriers in the US that are smaller than T-Mobile.

As for the rest... the Sidekick has done a fine job of finding success on T-Mobile's network. And Android hasn't been hurt by it, either. I think it depends more on what type of audience and deployment they're looking for ... and whether or not AT&T wanted an open linux device in their product line-up.

But, people do need to be aware that T-Mobile's 3G isn't yet nationwide. It's getting there, but it's still EDGE in a lot of places (I get 3G at home, EDGE at work).
