The N810 has a Mini SD slot and therefore, cannot use full-sized SD cards. So, your Micro SD to SD adapter won't work, as you've discovered.

You do indeed need a Micro to Mini SD adapter. If you're willing to wait two or three weeks to receive one, you might try this ($1.08 shipped!) model from DealExtreme:
