Options:

• Find a linux-based app that's written in Python or C (or even QT or Ruby, for that matter). Learn how to port it to Maemo.
• Learn a programming language and make it yourself.
• Offer a bounty for someone to make it for you.
• Etc.

But, to say that this is something that "needs" to be done in Maemo? Well, you're the first person I've ever heard ask for it.

Honestly, being that Internet Tablets are made for the internet, most people probably do just go to one of the websites that already provides this functionality.

I don't mean to stifle your request, but as stated, there are ways to do what you want -- and already via the internet.
