To be honest, I only registered to this forum in order to encourage you to realize your plans mentioned in your post. When I decided to buy the N800, I started to browse the internet for information about software for this new device. So I came across this forum and after reading some threads, I was about to cancel my order...

Things like "when I started my N800 this morning the WSOD appears..." or instructions how to install software (talking about different Linux commands and "repositories") made me feel that my decision was wrong: this is not a user-friendly device with loads of software available free of charge and easy to use, but a gadget for "geeks" spending hours on it in order to run programs smoothly.

Well, in the meantime I learned that the "white screen of death" is NOT an expression taken from "The Lord of the Rings" and it is mainly a problem for the 770. But for the group of average PC users (and I belong to this group) who never got in touch with Linux and who is used to press the "install" button for new software, its really a challenge to deal with repositories and stuff. Especially when English is not your first language.

Of course the device has a base functionality and if you are happy with it you don´t really need to dig into Linux. But as penguinbait mentioned: the continuation of this hardware platform depends on the sales figures of this device in the first instance and the more it offers to "average" customers the higher the chance that it will be further developed.

I will receive my N800 by the mid of next week and hopefully I will not bother this forum to much with my newbie questions
