where I work we've had to put some gifted people into the process of automating analysis of websites to see if they're small-screen friendly (iphone, smartphone etc), and even then it's hit and miss and needs live humans to review the results.

there are far too many organisations which think a simple custom CSS style, or a custom skin for a forum, wiki etc, is sufficient to make it mobile friendly.

however, it is getting better. I've seen the stats.
