Jack6428,

the supplied playlists refer to files with unknown codecs.

I'm not going to test every single link you are sending to me as there is no way to supply all codecs with N900 sales release. For cases where some free software or open source gstreamer codec is available for formats you expect to get played, MediaPlayer will be able to play such files if you'll install codecs onto the device.

Our Gstreamer guys promised to provide some documentation on Maemo.org, outlining steps to enable any gstreamer plugin support on Maemo 5. Once plugins are installed and MIME types for them are registered with Tracker, standard MediaPlayer will work with those codecs.

I hope community support for extending list of available codecs will come through Maemo.org Extras repositories. Of course, there are limits as to what hardware could allow without certain optimizations on Neon and DSP fronts (and even there we have some limits) but overall Media Player is quite extensible and agnostic to formats/codecs as provided by gstreamer. There is no need to drop Media Player "just because" your favorite stream is not supported right now.

The same applies to almost any applications utilizing gstreamer on Maemo 5.
