Please contact me if you want to test the new version Be aware that it might break things (as always)..
Seems like I magically got upgraded to the new UI (gpodder 2.0-diablo1) tonight, straight from the usual repo.

My first POSITIVE impressions:
  • Maybe it's just me but it seems MUCH snappier.. a lot faster than previous versions.
  • Nice updated icons. I like them a lot and the sizes are consistent.
  • It didn't ever occur to me to think up such a thing, but I love the 'Hide podcasts without episodes' option. Its made it a LOT easier to navigate podcasts that I want to play--even while I'm driving. Anything that makes it easier for me to tap and play something without averting my eyes from the road to look at my N800 dashboard mount gets rave compliments from me.
  • I can select multiple podcasts to perform operations on (delete, mark as listened, etc.). I'm very happy to see that return.
  • I noticed that tap-and-hold (context menu) comes up on podcast feeds on the left side--which is much nicer than the previous way of going up to the drop-down menu to do something to THAT podcast feed you tapped to highlight.
  • Related to the last point, I also see that the tap-and-hold context menu has an 'Update podcast' option. This is great--a MUCH more intuitive way to selectively update only one feed and vacate the portion of the toolbar where 'Update selected' is currently occupying precious screen space that could be used for more often used functions (play, delete, etc.) and change the single-tap context menu into a tap-and-hold so that the interface is consistent.
My first NEGATIVE impressions:
  • There's no way for me to edit an already-existing feed. If I tap-and-hold and then choose 'Podcast settings', I get information on the feed but I can't edit any of the details for the feed such as the feed's URL. I also can't get a standard system keyboard to pop up after highlighting text so that I can copy/paste text from the details listed like I used to be able to do.
  • There's no 'Advanced' option in the preferences menu. I rather liked that I could go in and tweak things without breaking out an xterm window and fiddling with the gpodder.conf file manually.
  • If I select a bunch of podcasts from a feed, then select 'Play', it reports 'Opening x episodes' (x being the number I highlighted), the episodes are marked as played but a player never launches to play those episodes.
I think that's it for now--it's only been a few minutes playing with it. I'm sure I'll have more to ramble on about later. Let me know if you want any of these filed as bug reports.

Danke!
