Mer is potentially wonderful; it would cost nothing to give it its own section.
As lbt says above - one of the Mer admins - moving stuff out to its own section too soon can fragment, set expectations of completion etc.

Instead of coming up with emotive rubbish, how about you do some analysis of numbers?
  1. How many Mer-related threads are there in Alternatives?
  2. How many non-Mer threads are there in Alternatives?
  3. How many of the threads are tagged appropriately?
