I also don't understand the reason for your wife's need of a music editing application on the N900 if currently the ipod is used just for playing and the editing is done on the PC. Is she also trying to replace the PC or do editing on the go? If she is used to MixMeister for her editing but wants to get her projects into MP3, she can export her projects to WAV and use the free Lame MP3 encoder to convert from one to the other. I haven't used Audacity in a while but I belive you have to add an MP3 encoder anyway to get the projects to export to MP3.
