Actually, El Coq is the nickname of a famous freedom fighter.

It is a story of heroism and tragedy, honour and comedy.

A very young French soldier during the First World War was known as much for his exploits in love as his impressive abilities in the battlefield. He became known as Le Coq by his fellow soldiers, both for his agressive fighting on the battlefield and for his string of women and his flamboyant dress off of the battlefield.

Le Coq tried to settle down after the war, but he just couldn't... He ended up, twenty years later, a celebrated hero but a lonely and sad man.

When the Spanish Civil War started, he went to join the Republicans against the rebels, because he had no love for the Germans who were supporting the rebels.

He tried to tell the Spaniards he fought with that he should be called "Le Coq" but, not understanding that it should be "El Gallo," they insisted on changing it to "El Coq"

"El Coq," as he was now known, fought bravely and very well against the rebels, but he was undone by his weakness for women. A beautiful woman in a town near where he was based, Senora Delilah, was secretly a rebel agent. She waited until he was asleep in her bed, and then summoned the rebels to capture him and drag him away...
