i am too.
though i think i have seen the possibility of dragging icons to the most right or left of the screen and thereby placing them in a list on the right- or lefthand side of the screen. which is maybe an outcome for what you are after? (arranging the icons neatly) (IF that is what you are after)
this would probably not work for widgets though
