Exactly! It's not good business, and people in this day and age don't want that. Nokia needs to wake up and realize they aren't the same in-demand company they were six years ago.
Hahahaha I bet you two would wait until February if it was necessary.
I think the business revolves more around higher level strategies than release dates. Btw the frenzy these phone bloggers cause in the weeks before launching must be quite good for Nokia's business. The commotion preceeding N97's launch was like ..insane.. almost. No wonder they now sent out these "tryout" units to bloggers around the world. Guess Nokia wants the frenzy up a notch or two.

I am now 100% speculating but *launching* something like this must be a big operation. Getting the N900 to work with all services in OVI, PC Suite and what more must be a challenge.
Making sure support people are ready, 3rd party developers on par, software somewhat ready.
A phone like N900 like any other smartphone must demand quite a lot even after it has been sold in the form of updates and support.

Part of the tech-loving community want the phone launched as pre-production 'cause they can themselves update it once updates are available. Other part write long reviews bashing the software & phone & manufacturer for launching a phone that "doesn't feel it was ready for the market just yet".

From the info I got yesterday (Flagship store@Helsinki) Nokia will send the phones to the Flagship store and to the people that preordered at the same time.
