The Ovi store strength relies on the distribution of commercial software. The maemo.org Downloads strength relies on the distribution of community software. Maemo Select offers a selection of recommended software from both sources. It is not a repository on its own, just redirects users to each source. We are still working on a gateway for community software to get their place in Ovi. We wouldn't be surprised if commercial developers find interesting the maemo.org community QA process and ask for publishing their betas there.
