According with the information publicly available there is only a version of the N900 which operates in the frecuencies 900, 1700 and 2100 MHz.

Currently there are three UMTS networks deployed in France; Orange, SFR and Bouygues Télécom, all three in the 2100 MHz band, so the N900, idependently where do you buy it, should work with any of theese networks.

The main difference between a devices purchased in USA and France will be localisation, keyboard layout, and plug pin of the charger provided with the device.

You can buy the device from USA, but you won't get a Frenc keyboard and you will have to buy a charger.
