afaik guys on summit received final hardware - at least that's what i read somewhere.. and fixing hardware once the assembly line is complete could be a non-trivial task ... I think that unless the bug would cause exploding devices, it'd be worked-around by software - at least this is what even cpu/chipset producers do...

If they didn't rush things and gave it another month, adding a self-contained device (like the compass) on i2c bus is, imho, very doable.. Instead they announced n900 almost 2 months ago (after a year of development), and still there is not a single piece shipped to distributors (but obviously they assembled many pieces already - at least for devs and testers around the world)..

yes. All what I wanted to say is that nokia could've spared people 3 months of waiting (since announcement), develop nicer hw and announced it 1 week before availability / with exact date (like with iphone and g1, i think)... in a ideal world that is..
