They don't need to admit it isn't ready for market, if it was ready I would have one wouldn't I?

Not every market is like the microsoft/apple one, where vista was the best OS ever and the original iphone was brilliant.
Nokia had always targeted Oct release, the Maemo summit was on Oct 8. If they had planned for fixes to any feedback from developers they only realistically gave themselves less than 2 weeks for fix and QA(at least 1 week for developers to find issues) which is totally unrealistic for a release quality firmware.

They could not have "planned" the final release around potential feedback from developers.
