Thanks! I finally got it working. First I had to convert it from ISO-8895-1 encoding into UTF-8 encoding. Then I had to change the "Project-Id-Version" field to something non-default. After that it worked.

Probably it would also have bene possible to change the encoding in the header from UTF-8 to ISO-8895-1, but I think having all the translations in UTF-8 is nicer.

There should be a way to tell your Mac editor to save in UTF-8, I think. Also hiding the *.txt ending from you seems to be a "feature" of your OS
