Not sure if this is posted, but isn't there a virtual image that is pre-made, sort of like a TV Dinner, just download and use VMWare player and then it has all the tools and a setup scratchbox? Sorry if this has been mentioned before I haven't gone through all the posts, just saw the Virtual machine post in the first page. You can't get much easier than Download and play.
