Now that would make an excellent Brainstorm proposal.

Some notifications are much more urgent than others.

I'll add: As with ring tones, the light colour and/or blinking pattern/speed would be great to be settable per contacts and contact groups.

In a meeting, phone on silent, concentrating on the meeting, getting a call from some random person? Leave it for later. Another IM come in? It really can wait. Call from pregnant partner close to having the baby? Set the LED to flash in all available colours...
