The "German Thread" lived from Dec. 2006 to Feb. 2008; 79 Replies and 8.000 views. Now a single thread certainly isn't well suited because it lacks topic-oriented structure. You won't likely find the answer to your specific question there... and it wasn't visible from the front page of ITT then. Still, from what you can tell, many of the posters there weren't very active outside this German thread, their overall post count is low.
What I find cool about it and why I mention it is that Susanne (who started it then saying she doesn't speak English at all) simply did it. I can't recall a 7-page-thread discussing its usefulness or possible dangers then.
(And I'm saying this even though I'd still prefer non-English resources to be independent sites without any English content whatsoever. - Reality is... it's not a question of either-or. My boyfriend always says: If you can't decide, take both.)
