1. If you obtained either an Android device or an iPhone through a network subsidy then you are most likely restricted from rooting/jailbraking by the contract you signed with the network. Doing so would put you in breach of contract.

3. From what I read and saw about the scripting capabilities of Android it seemed to me that you couldn't create a full blown application, in Python for example. It didn't look to me that you could just give someone a "myApp.py" file and have it show up as a full blown GUI app when ran, as you can in Maemo. If that is the case, Python scripts in Android are restricted to acting like macros. At least that is what I gathered from here:
