It does do some multitasking (in some sense, i.e., pausing programs) but not as one is used to do on a PC.
If it does download a podcast while playing an mp3 while I surf the web with the browser with an IM client receiving messages... yes, that's multitasking...

Your example is meaningless, the fact that some kind of multitasking is too cpu-heavy does not mean that the N900 does not multitask...
