I have used the Droid since Friday and the one thing that surprised me is how weak the sound quality is compared to my G1, Dash and Zen 32gb from the 3.5mm jack. Dash has OK sound quality, but the G1 and Zen have very good sound quality.

It then struck me that Droid and the N900 have the same chipsets. I am now concerned that the N900 could have the same weak sound quality. Sure, Droid's speaker sounds very good for a phone speaker, but the 3.5 mm jack output is low in volume and weak audio spectrum depth. Highs are especially weak.

I tried ACDC, Dire Straits, Led Zeppelin, Rush and Wolfmother with same result- wimpy sound from Droid compared to the G1 or Dash.

Could it be Androids lack of decent audio drivers are the cause of this or a chipset constraint?

I used 13ohm UE's and V-Moda buds with the same conclusion.
