Android is a definite possibility but it's still very new. We're only now seeing what will happen when there's a wide range of devices out there. Building Android apps for one or two very similar devices is one thing, building apps for a wide range of devices is very different.
I think there will be more Android phones by the end of this year than Maemo5 powered devices. A few manufactures have announced they want bring a Android phone to the market but Nokia is the only one who's into Maemo.

With the applications I think a lot of developers will be interested because it's Linux + QT.
Yeah, that's the point... I will most likely buy a N900 because of its Linux and GTK/QT but I think I'll wait till both devices are available and check them both.
