Five years ago- yes, Dell had deeper pockets. As I posted before, if Dell can find an easy way out of this, they will claim they canceled due to back-orders, but will somehow have no problem shipping to all of the people that paid the $600 price. Nokia is eating the $50 rebate, not Dell or anyone else.

Summary in simple numbers:

Dell has 1,400 preorders and 1,000 phones in the shipment allocation for them. What chance do you all think the $442 price orders have a chance of being filled verses $600? ZERO

$148 time each unit will tell you the answer

If Dell is constrained with supply, we have virtually no chance of seeing the orders be honored. Ever.

Added:

Let us hope they have plenty of N900's in their allocation and do not freeze some of it and claim "back-ordered". They would then purge the back-orders and magically have stock again
