Banks generally don't like large amounts of money being requested from a different country, this becomes especially problematic if your using a credit card to pay for your N900 and you used the same card to pay for a bagel and a latte for morning brunch in the UK, it kind of sets of alarms...
This isn't true for auth's marked as internet orders, only for card holder present.
This is more the fact that Nokia couldn't communicate internally and unnecessarily auth'ed cards three times (or more) for 500 quid, it is naturally assumed as a fraud. (How many people buy three phones for 500quid in 2 months?)
There are better ways of doing this and Nokia should know this.
