well knowing some of the best and worst in germany bavaria and austria I can tell that it does not depend on where it comes from as in case of country but it depends on the exact location of the brewery!
I like all kinds of beer depending on what I eat what time of the day it is and so on, from down south in Kärnten I like to have a Villacher (preferable Märzen) if its freezing cold. Friday night out I like to have some stronger in taste like Jever (no Becks!). Summer afternoon I like to have a dark Erdinger. Tannenzäpfle from Baden is some kind of sweet and cant come after Jever but having it as light kind at a barbecue is ok (if I get a jever afterwards).
But one thing is just a fact, american beer is like having sex in a canoe!
