If they released 1.1 too quickly, it wouldn't actually have the improvements you're hoping for. They'd be in 1.2 or later :-)

They can only write, test and polish the code so fast...

This forum could stand to be more sympathetic with detractors if we are going to win them over instead of becoming a tightly knit but inward looking fringe group.
Strongly agree. Successful open source needs to work constructively with criticism, and keep welcoming constructive critics so they become participants, not attack them.
