Try this:
Go to the x-terminal and type
apt-cache search [program name]
where
program name
is the program you are trying to install. If the program shows, do the following:
sudo rootgain
then enter. This gives you access to install program on the phone.
Then
apt-get install [program name]
If you get an error following this process, let us know of the error message by posting it here-- if possible, post the screen short.
