Just to note I worked around this by assigning a static address in the wlan settings and entering opendns IP addresses for the nameserver addresses in the same settings page ( 208.67.220.220, 208.67.222.222). This would work for anyone running into the same problem who is in a position to use a static IP on their wlan connection.

For people without that luxury, I don't know..
