I messed up here. I meant "in idle condition". No data connection.
Ok I had the same problem and after a lot of testing I think I worked out a solution.

The problem is in the wifi connection: no matter which parameters are in use (10/100mW or WPA mode only or else): every time you connect or try to connect to a wifi lan, you will notice a battery drain problem and the device itself getting warmer (as if the wifi chip wouldn't go off).

The only solution for now is a reboot, so every time you connect (or try to connect) to a wifi lan, you have to reboot the N900.
